Pupil Premium at Our School

Pupil Premium at Our School

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to state-funded schools in England. Its purpose is to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils aged 5 to 16. This includes children eligible for free school meals (FSM), those who have been eligible in the past six years (Ever 6 FSM), children in care or previously in care, and children from service families.

The funding is not a personal budget for individual pupils. Instead, it is used strategically to address the challenges disadvantaged pupils face and to help close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

Our Ambition:

At our school, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background. We are committed to using our Pupil Premium funding to:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching that meets the needs of all learners.
  • Provide targeted academic support to accelerate progress.
  • Implement wider strategies that promote attendance, wellbeing, and engagement.

We are ambitious for our pupils. Our goal is not just to close the gap—but to unlock potential, nurture talent, and ensure that every child leaves us ready for the next stage of their education with confidence and success.

How We Use the Funding:

In line with the Department for Education’s guidance for school leaders, our approach is evidence-informed and follows a tiered model recommended by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF)

1. High-Quality Teaching

  • Investing in professional development for staff.
  • Enhancing curriculum design and assessment.
  • Supporting recruitment and retention of excellent teachers.

2. Targeted Academic Support

  • One-to-one and small group tuition.
  • Structured interventions in literacy and numeracy.
  • Support for pupils with SEND.

3. Wider Strategies

  • Improving attendance and punctuality.
  • Supporting pupils’ social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Providing access to enriching experiences such as trips, clubs, and cultural activities.

Accountability and Transparency

We take our responsibility for Pupil Premium funding seriously. Our approach is strategic, transparent, and rigorously monitored.

We publish a Pupil Premium Strategy Statement annually by 31 December, using the DfE’s recommended template.

  • Monthly financial accounts ensure that spending is tracked and aligned with our strategic priorities.
  • Termly progress meetings allow us to review pupil outcomes, evaluate interventions, and adjust our approach where needed.
  • All our monitoring activities—whether lesson observations, book looks, or data reviews—are carried out with a Pupil Premium lens, ensuring that the needs and progress of disadvantaged pupils are always a central focus.
  • Governors and school leaders regularly scrutinise our strategy to ensure it remains effective, evidence-informed, and ambitious.

This ongoing cycle of review and refinement ensures that our use of Pupil Premium funding is always purposeful, impactful, and focused on maximising outcomes for every eligible child

Looking Ahead

We are proud of the progress our disadvantaged pupils make and remain committed to raising aspirations and outcomes. Our strategy is dynamic - responding to pupil needs, informed by research, and driven by our belief that background should never be a barrier to success.
