At Langford we understand that for pupils to do their best, they need to be able to learn about learning itself. This is referred to as meta-cognition. In simple terms, this means to develop an understanding of what makes good learning.
Therefore, based on the research of Shirley Clarke and using her concept of ‘Learning Muscles’, we at Langford have created our own learning muscles to teach children about the optimum skills for learning and to provide them with the language that enables them to talk about how they learn. Each muscle is represented by an animal that lives in our assembly hall and all of the muscles can be seen in every classroom around the school.
